832,000 people were claiming Job Seekers Allowance in 2003. (1)
Nearly two million people of working age will be off work for
at least six months at any one time through sickness and disability. (1)
In February 1999 there were 2.6 million people in Great
Britain who had been receiving Income Support for over 2 years and 56% of these were below pension age. (1)
In addition, 195,000 people had been claiming Job Seekers allowance for over 2 years. (1)
Over 2.4 million people claimed claiming Disability Living Allowance in 2003. (1)
40,560 people were killed or seriously injured on our roads in 2001 alone.(2)
Between July and October 2004, 136,000 people reported they
had been made redundant. The redundancy rate was 5.5 per 1000 employees. (3)
In total, between July and October 2004 there were 802,000
unemployed men and 587,000 unemployed women. (3)
The number of people unemployed for over 12 months was 270,000 in the same quarter. (3)
In 2003-04 an estimated 39 million working days were lost
overall, 30 million due to work-related ill health and 9 million due to workplace injury. (4)
